A bold Nigerian spice brought to life for a modern market

A new brand built from scratch, inspired by heritage and shaped for the spice shelf.

Brand identity, visual direction and packaging design.

About client

Ola’s Yaji is a new Nigerian spice brand created to introduce traditional yaji seasoning to a wider audience. Yaji is a key element of Nigerian cuisine, known for its heat, aroma and strong cultural roots. The client wanted to preserve this authenticity while presenting the product in a modern, distinctive way that would stand out in a crowded spice category.

Brief

The task was to develop an entirely new brand and packaging system that honoured Nigerian heritage. The client wanted the labels to draw from traditional colours and motifs, yet feel contemporary and relevant. The challenge was to blend cultural symbolism with the visual language of the global spice category. The outcome needed to be bold enough to compete on the shelf while staying true to the spirit of yaji.

Solution

We built a design language inspired by Nigerian cultural patterns, adapting them into modern geometric forms that read as “spice energy”. Traditional colours were reworked into a contemporary palette with strong visual impact. The result is packaging that feels vibrant, confident and instantly recognisable. The design captures the heat and boldness of yaji while giving the brand a fresh, international presence. Ola’s Yaji now stands out on the shelf as a modern celebration of a classic Nigerian flavour.
